Dear Jerry,
Hope you are having good time!
Let me share a major news story from my country, something you specifically asked for in your last letter.
I cannot talk about anything else other than the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. To give a brief information, it is the world’s largest democratic process of electing Member of Parliaments (MPs) and the Prime Minister of our country. Due to its sheer size, the process is spread over 10 weeks with the polling happening in phases across different parts of the country. BJP has won the maximum number of seats and Narendra Modi has been elected as the Prime Minister of India.
Majority of the citizens are very much involved in this process, be it young or old. The vital reason for everyone is the announcement of candidates for Prime Minister from each party. Many people vote for a strong leader even ignoring local leader who is contesting. There are lots of debates in newsrooms, lunch tables, evening walks, etc.
I also followed the results very closely as my maternal uncle contested the election from Yamunanagar seat from BJP. Having campaigned for him extensively in the run upto elections, it is very joyful for me to share that he has won with a huge margin.
I think this should give you some flavor of the elections in India and you can schedule a visit during the next elections to be part of this frenzy.
Take care!
Atul Sharma
