Thank you for your letter and for inquiring about my parents. They are good. I expect all is well at your end too.
I want to inform you about a burning issue that hit the headlines in India. I am sure you remember the unfortunate ‘Nirbhaya’ incident that took place last month. It has instigated a nationwide outrage attaining the attention of the judiciary system and the government.
The protests continued for about a month leading to severe criticism on the ruling alliance. The Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi had put the onus over the police and the Supreme Court to convict the criminals and stabilize the extended unrest. The Supreme Court expedited the trails and awarded a sentence to death for the individuals responsible for the aggravated felony.
The decision subsided the public outcry and the government also incorporated additional sections into the law to curtail the potential for sexual harassment and molestation. This move drew considerable domestic and international applause.
