Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure center that it runs, in order to save money.
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter
- give details of how you and your friends or family use the center.
- explain why the sports and leisure center is important for the local community
- describe the position effects on local people if the center closes.
At least 150 words. Begin your letter as follow: Dear Sir or Madame.
Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my grievance, with regard to the proposal of demolishing the local sports center. I suggest you take other measures to save revenue, rather than closing it down permanently.
The 'Lions Club' is one of its only kind, in this locality and has over five thousand members. My family and I have been regular users of the gym and swimming pool facilities here. There are several members of the society especially the senior citizens, including my grandfather, who daily looks forward to his evening yoga session.
Many young children are coached for professional sports such as tennis and cricket. Recreational activities on Sundays’ have made the neighborhood more familiar and friendly. Young adults are using the amenities available at the gym to keep fit. Aged people are frequent visitors at the garden to enjoy fresh air and social conversations with others. If the sports center closed down, the local community will be adversely affected.
People will be directed to an unhealthy lifestyle. Children will not have enough space to play due to the lack of public gardens and leisure centers in this locality. Senior citizens will be forced to stay home and this may further cause illnesses of the mind and body.
I suggest you levy an additional fee to those who violate rules and misuse the facilities. A collective, conscious effort by the authority and the members towards saving electricity and water could help avoid many unnecessary expenses. This sports center is not only easily accessible to the
Hoping for a quick and favorable response.
Yours sincerely,
Kathleen
