2. Nowadays there is a wide range of TV programs. But instead of watching educational programs, news or documentary films, more and more people prefer to watch TV shows, soap operas or serials. And this negatively affects knowledge acquisition skills.
What are the primary causes of this tendency?

How is it possible to make educational TV programs more popular?

It is true that viewers of televisions have access to a wide selection of programs from educational to entertaining ones. However, viewing figures of programs such as shows, soap or operas are significantly higher than those containing educational contents. This essay is going to elaborate on why this is the case and propose some solutions to encourage people to watch news or documentary films.
The preference of people for entertaining programs on TV such as soaps or operas can be attributed to two main reasons. Firstly, It is widely acknowledge that TV is considered as a medium for entertainment. For many people, watching TV acts as a stress reliever, so they tend to turn on channels which broadcast films or reality shows because of their entertaining content. Moreover, the advent of the internet and technological devices has helped people to obtain what they want to know more easily. For example, online newspapers provide their readers with detailed information about what is happening around them. Therefore, TV is of no use for them to stay up to date or gain knowledge. Secondly, educational programs on TV are boring to people. For example, in my country, documentary films about history have white and black pictures with long texts. Watching these programs just makes me sleepy.

To encourage viewers to watch educational programs, there are several viable solutions. The first measure is to make news and documentaries more interesting for audiences. For examples, The national television station in Vietnam has displayed a TV program called “ NEWS 24H’ which updates viewers with the latest information in a more attractive way. Another possible way to make documentary films is to change the way the content is broadcast. Instead of showing images or long written text on TV screen, a film with actors would be more appealing. Another solution is that educational programs should be aired during peak time when a large number of people are sitting in front of TV.

In conclusion, boring content, and the availability of information on other forms of media are to blame for the low viewing figures of educational programs on TV, and there are some solutions to make them more interesting.
