Recent figures show an increase in violent crime among youngsters under the age of 18. Some psychologists claim that the basic reason for this is that children these days are not getting the social and emotional learning they need from parents and teachers. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Recently, juvenile delinquency rates have increased, so this type of crime has become ubiquitous in society. Several psychologists are convinced that teens are growing more violent these days because of a lack of desired sociability and emotional nurturing from parents and school mentors. This essay will argue the voiced cause for this state of affairs and also discuss other reasons that affect brutal crime among youth.
To begin with, it is an undeniable fact that families and teachers have been neglecting children for a long period of time. Nowadays, parents aren’t able to change their hectic schedules due to the nebulous economic situation of the world, so they can’t spend quality time with their offspring. For example, the latest CNN report shows that adults in the United States spend far more hours at work than they did a decade ago. In addition, professors can’t replace parents in upbringing their students because school time is limited for so many young people. Undoubtedly, this has caused an increase in the number of juvenile offenders.
However, criminological researchers identify some other factors that have influenced the spread of violent crimes among youngsters. One of the leading reasons for juvenile crime is violence at home, where the child learns what kind of person to grow into. For instance, British criminologist James Densley has proven that this can lead teenagers to the commission of particularly dangerous criminal acts such as robbery or murder. Moreover, a serious problem that makes some children unable to function as normal members of society is the use of illicit substances. Exposure to drugs had resulted in finding unnatural ways to satisfy that awful craving.
In conclusion, this essay argues for the lack of social learning from relatives and teachers and alternative causes of increasing juvenile delinquency. In my opinion, psychological researchers were right, so adults must spend much more time with children and nurture them to grow up as law-abiding people.
