Some people think music plays an important role in society. Others think it is it is simply a form of entertainment. Discuss both sides and opinion.
In every stage of society, the importance level of music in life is always a controversial topic. Whilst there is a school of thought that holds that such melody compositions are merely a tool of amusement, other people and I assume that this kind of art contributes greatly to society. The reasons of both sides will be elaborated on in this essay.
To commence with, there would be two main rationales for the perception that music primarily serves as a form of entertainment. First and foremost, music is seen as a commodity that caters to individual preferences and tastes, meaning that it is mainly consumed for personal pleasure rather than for its societal impact or cultural significance. Many people listen to music just to relax after a hard working day or escape from their stress without any thought about societal influences. Secondly, some songs in modern society are assumed to be a temporary recreation because of how they are created. In fact, in the context of the competitive music industry, many musicians compose songs quickly just to catch current trends among the young generation and then let such works sink into obscurity.
Nevertheless, I would contend that music brings to society abundant benefits, especially, in terms of cultural significance and economics. Regarding the former, music is deeply intertwined with the cultural fabric of societies around the world, reflecting their traditions, beliefs, and values. Traditional music genres and songs are passed down through generations, thus acting as a link to the past and providing insights into the social, religious, and historical contexts of a community. In terms of economic effects, companies in the music industry are generating billions of dollars in revenue each year thanks to the sales of albums, tickets to live shows, and contracts with advertising agencies. In Korea, for instance, music companies have contributed more than $15 billion to the nation’s GDP yearly, highlighting the country’s economic success in recent decades.
In conclusion, both sides of the argument have their own merits. However, I consider the influence of music on national culture and economic development to be remarkable even though it might just be a stress reliever for some people.
