Would you prefer to take courses taught by professors with whom you have already had other classes during your past years of study, or would you prefer to take courses with professors whose classes you have never taken before? Why?
It is generally agreed that teaching has a pivotal role in graduation quality in all universities. Professors who instruct the material of courses define this quality and directly impact it. Teaching style and method is a master key in instructing evaluation and understanding of the courses and the professor is the bottleneck of it. Some students prefer to take a course and gain knowledge from different instructors, however, others are against this idea and believe that examined teachers are better than the new one. Although it is hard to reach a consensus on this issue, I do believe that taking a course with a professor that already passed the course with them is a better decision. The following reasons would elaborate on my idea.
To commence, one of the main criteria that have a big impact on teaching quality is teaching style. It is clear that the way that instructors choose to transfer the concept of course material is a master key in teaching. In addition, a clear teaching structure helps students to follow the material and get involved in the classes. For instance, I took a course in mathematics last year and the professor always asked questions to compel students to take part in a discussion in order to understand better. Indeed I like to take another course with that professor. Also, I am pretty familiar with the criterion for getting a good mark in the class.
As time passes and students become closer to graduation they become more aware of the final mark important to finding a good job in the future. We know that when you are familiar with a professor based on previous experiences, you can get a better result in the course based on those experiences. To put it in general words, you pretty much know what he/she wants for homework, and also the criterion for the final mark. I remember when I passed a course in chemistry, I found that the professor persist in homework and assigns a big part of the final mark to them. It is crystal clear that when I take another course with that professor, I try to present HomeWorks in the best way.
Last but not least, all instructors refer to the previous courses that they taught and there are no exemptions. When we take a course with those professors we almost know part of the new course and it would be familiar to us. For instance, they almost say in the previous session, in the past course, and so on. Therefore, when we took a course with them before, we know what they mention.
Drawing upon the reasons, although some exemptions are excluded from general rules, I believe that taking courses that are taught by instructors whom I have already passed classes with them is a better option. This decision, not only helps me to understand the material of the course but also assists me to get a better marks in the course.
