Essay topics:

Avenues that are proposed in the reading passage to control cane toad population in Australia are rejected by the professor in the lecture.

Both the reading passage and the lecture discuss about the consequences of rapid growth of cane toad in Australia. The reading suggests three avenues to hinder the growth of cane toad in Australia. But the professor in the lecture casts doubt on these proposals for the following three reasons.

First of all, the reading passage points out that a national fence could be established to restrict cane toad growing rapidly. There are some areas where cane toads have not collonized yet. The passage proposes an idea to make a fence to restrict them entering in those areas. Moreover, this kind of approaches had been used before to eradicate rabbit's high growth in Australia. But the lecture refutes this proposal as the professor thinks that it won't be feasible. The professor asserts that cane toad can be capable of being collonized in any particular area of water and can move to other places through stream. Thus, this fence making technique won't be successful.

Secondly, the reading passage suggests that cane toad's rapid growth can be waned through volunteering. If volunteering could be done to remove and destroy cane toad then it would be a viable approach as the passage says. As young cane toads are very handy to capture by hand and they are only limited to water, it will be quite easier job to destroy them through volunteering. But the lecture opposes with this proposal as the professor thinks that the volunteers may destroy some young frogs inadvertently alongwith cane toad that will be very much harmful for the ecosystem.

Finally, the passage says that some specialized virus may be used to destroy tcane toads. These virus could be invented to limit the number of toads and might not affect other species. But the lecture casts doubt on this opinion as the professor thinks that this could create ecosystem damage in United States through spreading these virus on that area. Cane toad population might be in danger if this virus would be introduced in US and in turn, it will cause a diverse consequences on the ecosystem.
