Computerized voting versus traditional

Essay topics:

Computerized voting versus traditional

There is a debate on whether to use traditional voting versus computerized voting. The passage is talking about the disadvantages of the traditional way, specifically, the possibility of making a mistake in choosing the candidate name and the high cost of a recount if counting the vote by humans goes wrong. However, the lecturer disagrees by providing counterarguments for each of the points made by the author.
The professor points out that voting with computers might be easy for people who use them frequently and can afford them. However, less experienced people might decide not to vote because they either do not know how to use computers or are scared by them. Even though the author talks about how zoom-in and zoom-out and touch screen options in computers reduce the chances of human errors, using computerized voting can completely change the direction of voting if one does not know how to use it.
Additionally, the author discusses that people can make mistakes while counting the votes and if something goes wrong, they need to pay the high price of recounting, but the lecture argues that computer counting error can affect more than thousands of votes compared to few errors made by humans, furthermore, if the human made computers make such mistakes since no physical evidence is available recounting is not even an option.
Finally, the author brings his argument to a close by questioning that why government authorities who are comfortably trusting computers with their financial transactions and communicating risky information are not in favor of using computers for voting? The professor takes issue with this question by contending that the banking and social systems have been around for a while now and have been tested and debugged several times during several years since they are being used widely and frequently. Nevertheless, implementing a computer-based voting system will not be having a chance to get tested since it is only used every two years. Hence, it will not be flawless.
To sum up, the author and the lecturer have differing opinions about whether to apply technology and computers in voting systems or just stick with the traditional way.
