Archaeologists have recently found a fossil of a 150-million-year-old mam-mal known as Repenomomus robustus (R. robustus). Interestingly, the mammal's stomach contained the remains of a psittacosaur dinosaur. Some researchers have therefore suggested that R. robustus was an active hunter of dinosaurs. However, a closer analysis has made the hypothesis that R. robustus was an active hunter unlikely. It was probably Just a scavenger that sometimes fed on dinosaur eggs containing unhatched dinosaurs.

First, R. robustus, like most mammals living 150 million years ago, was small—only about the size of a domestic cat. It was much smaller than psittacosaurs, which were almost two meters tall when full grown. Given this size difference, it is unlikely that R. robustus would have been able to successfully hunt psittacosaurs or similar dinosaurs.

Second, the legs of R. robustus appear much more suited for scavenging than hunting: they were short and positioned somewhat to the side rather than directly underneath the animal. These features suggest that R. robustus did not chase after prey. Psittacosaurs—the type of dinosaur found in the stomach of R. robustus—were fast moving. It is unlikely that they would have been caught by such short-legged animals.

Third, the dinosaur bones inside the stomach of the R. robustus provide no evidence to support the idea that the dinosaur had been actively hunted. When an animal has been hunted and eaten by another animal, there are usually teeth marks on the bones of the animal that was eaten. But the bones of the psittaco-saur inside the R. robustus stomach do not have teeth marks. This suggests that R. robustus found an unguarded dinosaur nest with eggs and simply swallowed an egg with the small psittacosaur still inside the eggshell.

The article introduces the topic of the eating habits of R.robustus. The recent discovery in the fossil of R.robustus has found evidence of Pisttacosaurs in their stomach. The writer says the remains were obtained as they scavenge and feed on egg nests and eggshells. However, the lecturer disagrees. She believes that R. robust have hunted pisttacosaurs and attacks each claim made in the passage.
First of all, the reading suggests that the Robustus had a small size body like that of a modern cat and they were not able to hunt the two-meter-tall pisttacosaurs. But the lecturer claims that robustus could have hunted the baby pisttacosaurs or the species of small size as their body were twice greater than their stomach. She adds the robustus have hunted the baby pisttcosaurs.
She goes on to say that, the small length and little size legs doesn't signify that the animal doesn't hunt. She provides the example of Tanminias Devil who have small leg and small size body but is an active and successful predator and also they can run up to 15km/hr, which is a pretty good speed. Hence, she mentions that robustus while having small feet they might not be scavengers but the ones with good speed to hunt the robustus.
Furthermore, she contends, robust might have swallowed the whole pisttcosaurs without chewing. She mentions that robust did not use their back teeth for chewing that overmark the function of the powerful jaw. Hence, she claims that there was no bone shown to be actively hunted, and also there was no presence of teeth mark for the same reason. She argues, when animals is directly swallowed you cannot have some teeth makers there.
To sum up, both the writer and professor hold conflicting views about the eating habit of R. robustus. It’s clear that they will have trouble finding the common ground in this issue.
