Secondly, the article posits that palm oil can be used in the production of biodiesels, and substitute the traditional fuels that caused higher carbon emissions. In contrast, the professor says that the process of clearing and preparing land for the growth of palm trees, requires burning of vegetations. Therefore, it not only do not help the climate, but also by producing hazardous gases while burning has a negative impact on the environment.
Finally, the article says that palm oil production contributes to the reduction of poverty by providing more profits over the production of other crops for small-scale farmers. The professor opposes this point by explaining that small-scale farmers can't control palm tree lands for long. According to her, because of the high profits palm trees production have, large-scale farmers obtain most of the land for themselves. Consequently, most of the small-scale farmers get very little in return.
