salvage logging
The reading passage and the lecture both are about salvage logging. The author points out the three advantages of salvage logging. The lecturer casts doubts on the claims made in the passage.
First of all, the passage states that removing dead trees makes room for new trees to grow immediately. The professor refutes this points. The lecturer insisted that cleaning the forest does not create a good environment for new trees to grow because the decomposition of dead trees can make the soil more fertilize and can provide more nutrients for the nearby living plants. Secondly, the reading passage mentions that decaying wood is a highly suitable habitat for insects. The lecturer points out that insects can benefit the forest in the long run.
Next, the reading passage insists that salvage logging has economic benefits. Furthermore, the passage states that the trees that have been damaged by natural disasters still can provide much wood that is usable by industries and it helps create additional jobs for local residents. This point is challenged by the lecturer. The lecturer insists that industries require to use expensive things and also require to train the workers.
In conclusion, the reading passage and the lecture both are about salvage logging. The author points out the three advantages of salvage logging. The lecturer effectively challenged the points made in the reading passage.
