Selling of fossils

In contrast to the reading, which emphasizes on the disadvantages of selling fossils to public, the lecture focus of identifying the advantages of selling fossils to public. The lecture meticulously counters each of the reasons given by the reading.

First, according to the reading sale of fossil has caused decline in public interest to see the fossil since they are sold rather than placing them in an museum or other similar exhibition. However, the lecturer denies this statement by saying that the sale of fossil to public has increased public exposure to fossil. The lecturer bolsters this statement by giving the example that schools and libraries will buy the fossil which is on the sale and keep it in there schools and libraries for people to see it.

Second, the reading cites that scientists are unable to complete there research on fossil due to the fact that the fossil is sold to public before scientist could view it. Nevertheless, this assertion is rejected by lecturer by saying that fossils are first identified by scientist before companies and people put it on sale. To corroborate this assertion, the lecturer claims that to decide whether the collected material is fossil or not it needs the approval of scientist.

Third, the passage claims that companies that extract the fossil from earth are not very experience, rendering the conclusion that they are not capable to handle the fossil which could lead to destruction of useful scientific evidence. But, the lecturer says that even if some evidence are damaged many of the fossils would be undiscovered if the company was not been permitted to sale the fossil. The lecturer further underpins his statement by saying it is better to lose some evidence than to not discover the fossils at all.
