Students nowadays study while using their phones, surfing the internet, or listening to music. Do you think these activities would adversely impact their study?
Recent years have witnessed the phenomenon quite often that some parents believe that using electronic products while studying will bring a severe negative impact for their academic performances. The discussion about whether studying while connecting to the internet becomes increasingly eye-catching. While some people be in favor of the opinion that studying while using electronic products will have a predictable adverse impact on their studies, I hold the standpoint that using these products during study time will not cause a negative impact on students’ study, instead, it will bring students a large number of positive effects to accelerate their studies.
Firstly, the internet will greatly enhance the accessibility for useful information, these materials allow students to study more comprehensively. There is no denying that the internet allows people access to information mush easily. For instance, when a student is learning English, he could use free electronic dictionary, attending classes freely if he haven’t fully understand the grammar his teacher taught during the daytime, inviting a native speaker to talk with him and refine his pronunciation. In this case, if students can use their phones while they are studying, they could access much more useful articles to improve their study effectiveness, by enjoying improved study effectiveness, students will tend to have better academic performance. Take for example myself, who is learning the Japanese through the internet and passed the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test N1. I collected various of information that could be used in my study from all kind of websites, includes dictionary, website with video-classes of my textbooks, and some websites allow me to talk with Japanese directly. Without the internet, I have no choice but learning from some unprofessional teachers.
In addition, listening music allows students to improve their study effectiveness instead of disturbing them. What can hardly be contradicted is enjoying music while studying will let you have a direct reflection of the level of your devotion. If you are devoted enough to your assignments, music will not become any obstacle of your study, but if you can hear each lyrics of the song you are playing, probably you are not orientated enough to have a high study effectiveness, it might because you are tired. At this time, taking a break will be a wiser choice. In this case, if students are allowed to listening to music while studying, a distinctive mark will emerge, and lead students to list a more reasonable study schedule. With a more comprehensive study schedule, students can study more effectively and get better academic performance.
Admittedly, restricting students from using electronic products while studying might lead them to concentrate easier within an environment without something to disturbing them. However, the lack of useful information from the internet and a useful way to ensure their study effectiveness, students are more likely to disappointed academic performance in long term.
Therefore, I hold the standpoint that using these products during study time will not cause a negative impact on students’ study, instead, it will bring students a large number of positive effects to accelerate their studies.
