Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecturer are both about the bibliotherapist which is also referred as self help books. The author of the reading states that reading these books people can cure their personal and emotional pain to great extent. The lecturer disagrees. He mentions this is just a muth and attacks each of the claims made in the article.
First, the author begins by stating that studying these books let people believe that there are not the only person suffering from pain and confer hope to get rid of it. In addition, people can obtain practical solution so that they can be applied in our real life problems. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends that indeed they feel hopeful and content with the convenient methods described in it however it stays for a short period of time since they are not real solution.
Secondly, the book contain innovative ideas of author and is applicable to deal with certain situation that people are dealing with. Furthermore, people are suceptible to get out of their comfort zone and feel happy with the situation. The speaker on other hand points out that not even a single concept are indigenous, they are merely shuffled the old contents. Owing to the unawareness of people they find it new however this is not the case. Therefore, even if they tend to feel satisfied while reading books they return to their initial stage after a while and suffer even the worse.
Finally, the reading also notes that self help books are superior over personal therapist. Additionally, they can visualize their future with no sufferings at all. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that no psychiatric can be superceded by books which just delineate about the empty speech. Hence, it is suggested to visit their personal therapist so as to get rid of emotional as well as personal pain.
As we can see, the author and lecturer holds conflicting vies on bibliotherapist. The speaker effectively challenges the writer’s argument.
