Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecture are both about the formation of distinct african american culture. The author of the reading states that as african are hired as slaves over america they began to acquire the american culture of their owner. The lecturer disagrees. He opposes the claims and attacks each of the argument made in the article. First, the author of the reading begins by stating that although they are bound by restriction in following the american practices, they eventually modified and mixed the culture dominating their own culture. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer's position. He contends that african are the ones that made impact over american traditions. In addition, he mentions many aspects such as fony, jambery and so on that are prevailing in america are actually stemmed from africa originally. Secondly, according to the writing slaves are susceptible to mixed varieties of language as owners hired them from various nations. Therefore, it results to the formation of new dialect called Creole. Additionally, they tend speak mostly english. Similarly, they are served with native food of white people. The speaker on other hands points out that there are certain music like jazz, rock and roll and so on as well as various foods that are originated from africa. Furthermore, the frame in the architecture is adopted from african culture. Hence, it is false to conclude that african is impaccted by white culture. Finally, the reading passage also notes that they are compelled to follow religion other than their own that is christianity. Yet, they manage to follow albeit secretly. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that there are religion such as vodu and many more and besides there are proverbs that are fascinated by african communities. Therefore, it does not seem that african are highly infatuated by american culture. As we can see, the author and lecturer holds conflicting views on blending african american cultures. The speaker effectively challenges the writer's argument.
