Essay topics:

Summarize the points made in lecture, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the reading passage.

The lecture and the passage is about a painting that is in argument, whether it is one of Whisker's paintings or not. The lecturer clearly presents many assumptions that could prove that the painting might not really be Whisker's painting.

The first point he presents is that, just because the show was held by Whisker's close friend, it can't be inferred that it was an authentic painting. Because, according to the lecturer there were many paintings by various people on the show.

Secondly, just because the painting resembles Whisker's "Symphony in white", it doesn't prove that its the same one. Lots of different painters working at that time might have painted the same girl using same techniques like that of Whisker.Use of monochromatic effect in the painting also doesn't really provide the evidence because this effect was quiet famous at that time and many painters used the same in their work, as per the professor.

Thirdly, about the "Butterfly sign", professor mentions that it was drawn on the wrong location; i.e, instead of upper right corner it was on the lower right corner. Also the shape and color of the butterfly was not exactly same. So, lecturer thinks that it might be the act of forgery.
