Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the reading passage.
The lecture and the prompt make contrasting points about altruism noticed among humans and animals. The prompt mentions that a human can perform an altruistic action towards other where the latter gains benefit out of the action and the former receives very little reward from the same. The lecture suggests that however, the human performing the altruistic act does receive appreciation from society or other non-material rewards which could be consequential for some people. Another altruistic behavior commonly mentioned in both the lecture is that an individual meerkat acts as a sentinel for a whole group of meerkats - either searching/hunting for food or eating their foods - i.e. guarding the group from any predator and further alerting them from the same. The prompt states that the sentinel meerkat while standing guard sacrifices its meal for the safety of the rest of the group. Nonetheless, the lecture mentions that as the sentinel meerkat guards around a burrow, it would be easier for the sentinel meerkat to flee inside the burrow at the time of danger in comparison with the rest of the herd due to the fact that sentinel meerkat is the first one to get to know about an attack. The prompt contrasts this statement by stating that the sentinel meerkat would have to flee alone after alarming the whole group which will put it in more danger.
