Essay topics:

summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the passage.

The passage describes Altruism as a type of behavior that shows how animals or individuals sacrifice their interests for that of another animal or individual. An example of this can be seen in the behaviour of a particular type of mammal called the meerkat, of which one of them stands as a guard or acts as a sentinel, while the others hunt for food.

Although Altruisim is an act selflessness, the lecture doesn't support it because there are some gains associated with it. An example highlighted by the lecturer was the praises or commendations a person receives for donating a kidney or anyother vital organ that is required to save a persons life.

Also, in the example of the meerkats, the one standing guard is always the first to escape when there's danger. It also raises alarm that warns the others but does not lead them to the path of safety. The sentinel is always the first to eat before the others .

Altruism might be a selfless act but, is not always true in every case and may not be applicable to situations where people have high expectations of others.
