The reading passage and the lecturer discussing about the painting in very contrast ways. The reading passage suggests that it could be Jane Austen picture but the speaker refuses the all points made in the reading.
Firstly, reading says that Austen's family gave the permission to use the portrait as an illustration in and edition of her letter. But, the lecture argues that it could be the picture of the Austen and he states that, this edition permission on 1882 but the portrait had been made 70 years before. So, it is not Austen image in the portrait.
Secondly, reading passage claims that facial features are resembles as Jane Austen because the nose, mouth, eyebrows and shape of the face exactly looks like as her sister's sketch. Again, the speaker opposes this point by saying that even though image similar to Cassandra's sketch, Austen's family was extended large family, even her nephew also resemble like Austen. So, this portrait cannot be Austen.
Thirdly, reading explains that even it was not signed and dated, the style of the art link to Ozias Humphrey who was a famous painter and she was rich, so, she might have hire him to do painting. Still, the professor refutes this statement by stating that the stamp on the back side the picture shows later date and that canvas not sold by Williams. During that period Austen age was 27 years old not she was not teenager by the time.
To sum UP, the reading passage suggests picture could be Austen because of edition permission to illustrate portrait, facial features in that art and style of the painting. But, the speaker refuses the all these points by giving reasonable evidence to support his arguments.
