TPO 25 - Integrated Writing Task
According to the passage, three arguments to demonstrate that ancient vessels were not made as electric batteries are presented. In contrast, the lecturer opposes to the explanations presented in the passage, saying they are not convincing.
First of all, it is thought to be truth that these vessels did not serve as batteries because they were not with electricity conductor when they were discovered. Whereas, the professor holds a contradictory viewpoint. She believes that the vessels were unearthed by local people who do not know much about the products they are holding. Even though they were holding conductors, they might threw them, seeing them as garbage.
Secondly, similar usage to the known copper cylinders from Seleucia, used for holding scrolls, is regarded to be an explanation to account for the theory because they are in the similar shape. Whereas, the professor puts forth that even though they are in the paralleled shape. It can be concluded that the usage of this vessels had two phases. For the original stage, it might serve as containers of scrolls. The vessels, however, could adapt for another usage for the second stage.
Third, since there were no need of electricity, the vessels might not be batteries. Nonetheless, the woman disagrees that electricity, indeed, was implemented in ancient times. First, it could be used to convince others. For instance, a self-called magical man might use it to make himself appear somewhat powerful. Also, electricity could be used to save lives like what modern doctors do.
