In the lecture, the professor claimed that shrimpers should use TED to protect the sea turtle’s population, casting doubt on the reading’s main idea that if shrimpers used TED, they would have a lot of bad effect.
To begin with, the lecture stated that there were many sea turtles were captured by shrimpers. Although a shrimper rarely caught a turtle a year, every shrimpers totally would trap thousands of sea turtles a year. That would be a big problem to compare with losing some shrimp. This questioned the reading’s view that few shrimpers would catch sea turtle and also if they used TED, they would lost a lot of shrimp, so they couldn’t earn money.
Another view of the speaker was that it’s impossible for government to control all shrimpers in the US. TED would automatically monitored them if they used it. Therefore, sea turtle’s population could be increased. This point contradicted the article’s assertion that controlling the shrimpers that they could’t fishing frequently.
Finally, the professor argued that we could modified the nets size in specific area so that some big turtle could escape from the nets easily. With this said, the professor opposite the reading’s statement that because of the nets size, some large sea turtle could’t run out of the nets.
