The article states that every year millions of birds in city's environment are harmed, and provides three possible solutions for that. However the professor cast doubt on every solution by providing opposite reasons and says none of the solutions is as much effective as it is mentioned.
First, in the article it is mentioned that replacement glasses with one-way glass which is transparent in only one direction is one solution. The professor refutes this idea by saying that one-way glass will act like a mirror. When a bird see the sky or a tree in glasses, because it wouldn't understand the difference between mirror picture of the sky or tree, it would fly toward them.
Second, passage claims that painting specific pattern on glasses can improve the harming rate of birds. While the professor rejects this idea either by explaining that this painting would not help birds, for they wouldn't understand those painting as painted glasses and they would fly right through the space among stripes which they imagine as holes of painting. Painting pattern should be extremely dense with small holes so that birds consider a wall. Besides in this case building would be too dark for the people inside.
Third, while in the passage was said that artificial magnetic field could prevent birds from hitting glasses, this idea would not be effective neither, the professor says. Because birds use their ability of magnetic field recognition in traveling between long distances, when they want to go to another place with warmer weather before winter. In short distances, the professor explains, birds use their eyes to see through, and it wouldn't have much effect on birds harm rate.
