The material discusses the concept of recording patients' information in electronic databases. While the reading looks at the topic from one perspective, the listening challenges certain points outlined in the reading passage.
Firstly, the reading details specific points regarding this topic, namely using the medical record database is cost-effective. Next, electronic medical records could eliminate errors and mistakes. Finally, adopting medical record systems could help researchers to access and gather patients' information.
Conversely, the listening challenges the points, one specific contradiction is doctors who adopt electronic medical record still need to keep some paper for any sort of emergency; furthermore, they could store paper for any legal purposes. As a result, they may stay have to pay for storing costs. In addition to that, using medical electronic record doctors will still use pen and paper to take notes or write prescriptions, then other medical stuff could enter this information into computers. Therefore, mistakes could happen due to poor handwriting. One final point, if patients' information recorded in electronic databases researchers will still have difficulty to access information due to the strict privacy law in THe United States; moreover, researchers should follow many procedures and permissions even from patients. For example, some patients block the use od their medical records for any purposes other than medical treatments. Medical databases' accessibility is not easy.
