TPO 52 task 1

The reading and the lecture both discuss whether colonizing asteroids is the best options for human or not. While the text alleges that asteroids are the best option for people to colonize than moon or mars, the talk refutes the claims proposed in the passage, believing that it is not a practical way and has several downsides.

To begin with, although low gravity makes landing on the surface easier for people, colonizing on asteroids have health risks for people. Indeed, people who were in space for a long time suffer from muscle and bone low density. As a result, the author's idea about low gravity of asteroids is rejected.

Furthermore, while mining raw and valuable metals from asteroids are a profitable idea, it has two factors that we should consider. First, the costs of supporting a colony and transferring equipment are so high that it cannot be convincible. Second, selling materials which are transferred from asteroids to the Earth will increase the supplying these elements on the Earth. Therefore the price of materials on the market will be decreased. In this line of thought, the writer's point of view about mining metals would be profitable is contradicted.

Finally, reaching asteroids may be easy for people, but getting back from asteroids would be challenging because asteroids come close to the Earth in some points, but they are moving away from The Earth so that it is not easy to return back from them. Accordingly, the article's opinion about asteroids' accessibility is wrong.
