The reading passage and the listening part both discuss the migration hypothesis of edmontosaurus to south in order to survive harsh winter. With this in mind, the author states that there are several reasons to support this hypothesis. The professor, on the other hand, refutes all tree episodes of arguments mentiond in the reading, beliveing that non of them are convincing.
First, from the edmontosaurus' diet issue, the writer explains that edmontosaurus fed on plants and due to the harsh winter in north slope, edmontosaurus would have found any plants to eat. Therefor, they must have migrate to temperate zones in order to find food. Conversely, the lecturer makes it clear that climate in north slope was much warmer that today. Besides, the warm and extended day-time in other seasons makd a suitable condition to grow plenty of plants and so, there was pelenty of dead plants for edmontosaurus to eat in winter.
Second, the auther states that evedince of edmontosaurus skeletons suggests that those animals lived in herd. due to the fact that many present-day animals which migrate, live in herd so it can be interpreted that edmontosaurus migrated to find food. However, the speaker says that the fact that edmontosaurus live in herd have nothing to do with weather they were migratory animals or not. she continues that living in herd can have othere reasons for instance surviving from predators. Plus, there are many modern-day animals which live in herd but don't migrate.
Finally, while the reading put furth the idea that edmontosaurus could run very fast and were able to migrate longe distances, the professor contradicts this idea. she mentions that adult edmontosaurus could run fast but what a bout those were not adult? adult edmontosaurus couldn't leave their childeren alone and migrate by rest of the herd so, all the herd had to stay in the north slope in winter and stay together.
