The reading text and lecture are both about the asteroid colonization. While the writeer feel that, it will be easy to colonize the asteroid than other planet. at the same time lecturer dispute all these claims made by the author. His position is that, this is not a practical idea.
First of all, according to the reading text, asteroids having a low gravity than rest of the planet. It also suggests that, landing and take off on this asteroids is easier than the Moon and Mars. The lecturer challanged this view and states that, this low gravity will cause several health issue to the colonizer. Moreover, he argues that, those astronauts, who spend several month in low gravity will face the problem like reducing mucsle mass and lower down the bone density.
Secondly, reading suggests that, this asteroids will have many valuable minerals like gold and platinum. Author believes that, asteroid colonization is become more profitable and it will provide raw material for different products. However, professor contends that, cost of mining is major factor in this case. Because, due high availability of raw material and valuable mineral will decrease the demand of it and it will eventually does not support the mining cost of that mineral. Additionally, he said that in the end it will become non profitable business.
In the end, writer states that, this asteroids are some time nearer to the earth. it will easy to reach out to the asteroids. In contrast to that, tutor said that, asteroids are not a stationary object. It will continue revolve in their path. So, for the fraction of time it will nearer to the earth but after that, it will goes far away than the Mars and out Moon. On top of that, he notes down that, At that time it will become more difficult for us to return back to our mother earth.
