The chart below shows the different levels of post-school qualifications in Australia and the proportion of men and women who held them in 1999. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart compares post-school qualifications that were held by men and women in Australia for the year 1999. The units are measured in percentages. In general, there were considerable discrepancies between the number of women and men who completed post-qualification degrees, except for the bachelor’s degree.
More women took undergraduate diploma and bachelor’s degree than that of men did in 1999. While there was a massive seven in ten of the number of women graduating the former degree, which was twice as high as the number of men who had the certificate, there was merely 5% difference between the number women and that of men who were qualified as bachelor.
In contrast, the figure of men dominated other qualifications. To begin with, there was a solid 90% of men certified as skilled diplomas, exhibiting an impressive gap with that of women. A smaller yet considered as high gap was registered for postgraduate diploma and master’s degree, which was nearly a third and a fifth difference, respectively.
