Over the past 50 years, the apparent consumption of different alcoholic beverages per capita has changed substantially. The lowest apparent consumption of alcoholic beverages was spirits, which remained relatively steady for the over 50 years at below 5 litres per capita.

To begin with, the apparent consumption of beer started at around 7 litres per capita in 1961 then showed a brief increase to reach at about 9 litres by 1970s. After that, the consumption for beer decreased gradually to reach at around 4 litres in 2014.

While the figure for beer has fluctuated during the given period, other categories of alcohol indicated of a gradual increase. Apparent consumption of wine has gradually increased from around 2 litres per capita in 1961.

The consumption for wine has indicated a gradual increase from 1981 approximately 3 litres per capita to 4 litres per capita by 2014.

The cider has introduced around 2005 at almost 0.8 litres per Australian heads.
