The reading claims that the coins which were found in one of the Native American historical site do not have any archaeological value and provides three reasons of support. However, the lecturer casts doubt on this ideas and provides several points to refute them all.
First the author argues that the large distance between Maine and North American settlement clearly depicts that these two group of people did not have any connection with each other. Conversely, the lecturer casts doubt on this idea by stating that other objects which were found in the archaeological site clearly highlighted the relationships of these two settlements.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that Norse did not bring their coins with each other because no coin was found on the Canadian sites that they lived in them. In contrast, the professor underlines the fact that although these people know they will not live in this place prominently, they were probable pack their precious things such as their coins and they brought them back by their self , when they wanted to come back to their original home.
Finally, the reading asserts that the Norse who traveled to North America would probable know they did not need their coins and they could not buy anything with them. On the contrary, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that these coins were attractive objects for the North American people because they could make different ornaments with them. So, as long as native people valued these coins, they could utilize them for different purposes.
