In this set of materials, the main topic has centered on survival hypothesis of Alaska's dinosaurs, Edmontosaurus, during the wintertime. While the author claims that dinosaurs could survive that harsh conditions trough migrating south area and implies points to acknowledge that, the lecturer finds all the mentioned points dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
First of all, the reading passage argues that the vegetation diet of the edmontosaur forced/has made them to migrate to warmer area. However, the speaker contends that there was a perfect condition to growing for plants of that area in the summer so they could provide these animals with an adequate nutrition for the winter as well.
Furthermore, according to the essay, these species were living in herd so this way of living has eased their movement to south. In contrast, the professor brings up the idea that being in herd is not persuading reason to accept the feature of being migratory kind of animal. Then, she makes clear her point by an example of a kind of elk which colonize in groups but don't migrate.
Finally, based on the reading, thanks to the moderately high speed of this species in running and their noticeable endurance in moving, they were able to Migrate. Nevertheless, the speaker dismisses this assumption since this trait was belonged to adult dinosaurs not all of them.Thus, these adults couldn't leave their offspring and migrate lonely.
