The reading specifies that there are three characteristics in planting genetically modified tree. However, the professor assert that although genetic modification has some benefits, it has serious problem and provides some evidence to refute them all.
First of all, author explains that genetically modified trees are harder than natural trees and this feature helps them to survive. Conversely, the professor opposes this idea by saying that it is true that typical trees destroy easily but few of them do not die. Hence, they do not extinct. On the other hand, genetic trees are uniform and if they expose to a counterparts which they did not design for it, all off them will die.
Second, based on the reading, genetically modified have some economic benefits for farmer who grow them. One of this benefits is that they tend to grow faster and other one is that they produce more yields of food. Nevertheless, the lecturer states that trees which genetically modified, cost more than typical tree. The farmer should pay more money for their seeds and also when they developed, the farmer must pay money to company each time they want to plant it seeds.
Third, according to the passage, growing demant for the wood causes many forest around the world being cut down and genetically modified trees help us replace them rapidly and satisfy our need for wood. Also it help us to save native and unique species of tree which is engendered by cutting. In contrast, the lecturer contradicts this point by reasoning that this kind of tree makes more damage than nature tree becaue it grows more aggressively and it do not give chance to natural tree to grow by competing with them.
