The data illustrates the primary reasons that drive different age students to study and the associated support provided by employers.
Overall, studying for career and for interest show a totally reverse trend with the age of students grows, as a considerable amount of students under 26 study for their future jobs while the most students over 49 choose interest as the main reason. The support received by different age groups fluctuates. However, it can be seen that employers are more willing to provide support to students under26.
To be more specific, nearly 80% of students younger than 26 study for career, which is about eight times more than its counterparts who consider more about their interest. By comparison, the majority of students over 49 choose interest as their primary reason to study. Moreover, two times as many as students between 30-39 studying for career than studying than studying for interest, whilst these two reasons are chosen by an equal portion of students who are in their 40-49.
As for employer support, it fluctuates with age grows. Firstly, more than 60% of students under 26 receive support from their employer. This portion decreased to its bottom at just over 30% in 30-39 age group, and then increased to slightly more than a half when students are older than 49.
