It can be clearly seen that, overall, the percentage of people who liveaged 65 and over will rise almost two and a half times in 100 years.
Now turning to the details, in 1940 Japan with 5 percent stood on the third place while the USA with having about 9 percent of individuals aged over 64 stood on the first place and Sweden was in the between them. After 1940, the proportion of the USA and Sweden grew gradually just under 15% until 1980. Yet, conversely, Japan’s proportion was slow decline and eventually touched the lowest point in 1980 with approximately 3 percent.
After 1980, Japan’s proportion of the population over 64 will rise slightly until 2030 but predicated to jump nearly 27 percent in 2040 and catch the first place. On the other hand, the USA’s proportion was relatively stable for the period from 1980 to 2030. But in that period, Sweden passed through the USA about 1995 year. So, in the end, is expected for the USA 23% and Sweden 25% of individuals aged 65 and over in 2040.
