Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would be impossible.
The reading passage and the listening passage most certainly disagree on the topic about the possibility of maintaining human presence in Venus.
First at all, the reading passage points out that atmospheric pressure at Venus surface is 90 times greater than atmospheric pressure in Earths' surface. Anything human might will be crushed on Venus surface. However, the professor explains that landing in Venus would be certainly possible. Creating a floating station located high 50 kilometers above Venus atmosphere where the pressure is lower would solve the problem. There is not danger for a spacecraf to land.
Second, the reading passage states that there are not reservoirs of water in Venus surface and the planet atmosphere are lack of oxygen or water vapor. On the other hand, the speaker explains that Venus atmosphere contains many carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid. Those components could be used as part of some chemical process to produce water and oxygen on the station. As a result, water and oxygen are not necessarily to be imported to the station.
Finally, the article discusses how on Venus atmosphere just a very little sunlight reach the planet surface due to the thick clouds that fill the atmosphere. The professor points out that it is true, that clouds are still on the atmosphere 50 kilometers above Venus surface but they are not very thick. The clouds reflects the sun light and these reflects and the solar panel as well can be used to produce more energy to the station.
In sum, by giving all these three reasons, the listening goes against to the reading passage.
