The chart above illustrates mean day-to-day expenditures from 1950 to 2010. At first glance, it can be seen that over the period given there were significant changes.
In 1950 Housing had the greatest share of the total, at just under 73%, however, figure had dropped to exactly 22% by 2010. Then, at slightly 11% stands Food, which is the second largest sector of the total. During the 60 years the situation had gradually changed, and by the end of the period, people's expenditure on food was at just 34%.
Transportation had a small minority in 1950 at just under 4%, followed by a growth fourth as many as it was by 2010. Other expenditure was one of the smallest part of the total in 1950, but it had risen from just 5% to slightly 20% over the interval. Health care and education's figures had not changed much, their indexes were at about 3 and 6% in 1950 and roughly at 5 and 7% in 2010 respectively.
