The charts below show the levels of participation in education and science in developing and industrialised countries in 1980 and 1990.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.
The bar charts compare the degree of involvement in education and science of underdeveloped and developed countries in both 1980 and 1990.
Overall, it is clear that industrialized countries are much more involved in promoting their population to achieve a very high level of technical knowledge, as well as in investing larger amounts of money in R&D (research and development).
Regarding the differences on technical training, figures for schooling years in developing countries stood at nearly 3 in 1980 and slightly more than 3 in 1990, compared to roughly 8 and 10, respectively, in developed countries. Furthermore, there was about a fourfold difference in the proportion of scientists and technicians of both groups in 1980, and by 1990 this gap had widened even further, with figures of around 7% and 2% in developed and underdeveloped countries.
As for R&D, developed countries invested roughly thrice as much as underdeveloped countries (approximately 50 and 150 billion dollars). In 1990, this difference was much higher, as figures for undeveloped countries shrank to less than $50b and those of developed countries rose dramatically to about $350b.
