Endangered species
The reading claims that the idea of safeguarding the endangered species from being extinct is illogical and has many limitations and provides three reason in support of it’s claim. However, the professor believes that we should prevent the endangered species from being extinction and refutes each of author’s reasons.
First, the article states that the extinction of any species does not have any impact on the balance of ecosystem. However, the lecturer rejects this claim by discussing the author’s example of dinosaur. He states that the extinction of dinosaur causes dramatic shift in the ecosystem. He then explains that since we are dominating the world, we should take appropriate measure to safe the current ecosystem that support us.
Second, the reading claims that we are not dependent on nature for medication because of Genetic Engineering. The lecturer opposes this argument by saying that still nature plays a vital role in producing medicine. Though new invention helps us to produce new medicine, yet the extinction of one species reduces the possibility of inventing new medicine.
Finally, the author argues that the expenditure of preserving the endangered species is not justified. However, the lecturer rejects this claim by giving one example of Freshwater Mussels of North America. This species are considered as endangered species and almost forty percent of this species have already became extinct. But the remaining species of Freshwater mussels provide the basis for setting up an industry, which creates ten thousand jobs. According the professor, these endangered species along with other species deserve to be saved only for economic reasons.
