Overall, both of the quantity of Japanese tourist travelling abroad and the percentage of tourist from Japan who travel to Australia experienced an upward trend, and had some fluctuations. The final year has more participation rather than at the beginning of the period.
The number of Japanese travelling abroad rose sharply from around 5 to virtually 11 millions between 1985 to 1990, a rise of about 6 millions in a 5-year period. From 1990 to 1993, a slight decrease was shown in the number of tourist from Japan who travelling abroad, but a steady recover to 12. By 1995, by contrast, the one travelling abroad had increased significantly to approximately 15.5.
The percentage of Japanese travelling to Australia improved dramatically from 2 to just under 5 percent from 1985 to 1988, rising by about 3. A steady drop was experienced in the one who travel to Australia, rebouncing back to just above 6 between 1988 and 1993. However, by 1994, the percentage of Japanese tourist to Australia had plummeted steadily to 6.
