silver coin, Maine, united states, Norse, archaeologists, Canadian
In this set of material, both of the author and the lecturer discuss about European silver coin founded in the state of Maine in the United States. While the author of the reading declares that these coins are not original type of them, and they probably are fake, the professor believes the archaeologists have mistakes on their hypothesis. She says there are a few of reasons refuting their speculations. In what follows, the reasons of both of the author and the professor are discussed.
Firstly, the author of the passage asserts that archaeologists discovered coins far from sites where a Norse presence are documented. On the other hand, the professor thinks other historical objects brought by European have also found far away. She says that native americans could travell this distance, and
they may bring them.
Secondly, the reading acclaims that other coins cannot be found in Canadian sites inhabited by Norse. In contrast, the professor believes there is no necessity. They could back to Europe and turn back. It is completely possible.
Finally, the author declares that the Norse could realize that silver coins are not useful to them. But, the lecturer says Norse knew that they were attractive and valuable. They used beautiful objects, such as jwellery, for trading with each other.
In conclusion, while archaeologists declares that the coins are fake, the professor refutes their viewpoints about them
