One of the best ways that parents can help their teenage children prepare for adult life is to encourage them to take a part-time job.
In today's world, one of the concerns that parents try to deal with is how to prepare their children for adult life. While most parents believe that it is not good to encourage children to take part in a part-time job, I tend to argue that having a part-time job is beneficial to children in numerous ways. In the following essay, I will vindicate my stance through three noticeable reasons.
To begin with, participating in part-time jobs can boost children's communicative skills as well as their confidence. In fact, children can learn how to interact and cooperate with their colleagues and people in order to get the best result. My own experience is a compelling example of this. When I was fourteen, I had a job in a hospital. I had to cooperate with other nurses to meet sick people’s needs. For example, some of us brought food and others checked the health conditions of them and things like that. Working there taught me how to communicate with people in order to understand their problems as well as how to build a close rapport between me and my colleagues, helping me build confidence and self-reliance as I realized how capable I was. Thus, Had I not have high levels of interpersonal skills and self-confidence, I could not have found a decent job in the future.
Another equally significant point is that by taking part in a part-time job, children can experience independence. As a matter of fact, they should cope with the obstacles they face by themselves without having the aid of their parents. For instance, my parents always relieved the struggle between my brother and his friends. However, after he worked in a company, a conflict caused friction between my brother and his colleagues. So, he learned how to solve the problem by speaking not fighting as he got fired after hurting his colleague. This example shows that children can learn how to be on their own when facing difficult situations, preparing them for the difficulties of their future life.
Last but not least, having a part-time job when children are not adults helps them practice financial independence. As a result of this, they can buy everything they need on their own, feeling more sense of happiness. To illustrate this, last day I read an article in the field of independence. The author suggested that children who could afford to purchase their own needs felt self-satisfaction, leading them to be happy.
All in all, engaging in part-time jobs can be advantageous to children. This is because not only can they be more sociable and self-confident but they can also be more independent. Also, children can experience financial independence. This is why I believe that parents should encourage their children to take a part-time job.
