Both the author and the lecturer discuss whether the vessels used as electric batteries in ancient times or not. While the author argues that it was not possible to use vessels as electric batteries, the lecturer disagrees with this idea, casting doubt on every single point the author mentioned.
First of all, the author believes that if these vessels were used as batteries, they should have been attached to some electric conductors such as metal wires but all that had been excavated were vessels themselves. On the contrary, the lecturer possesses the idea that the vessels discovered by local people not archeologists. Also, local people might have found wires or other conductors near the jars but because they were not trained, they could not recognize them, considering them as uninteresting things or throwing them away.
Second, the author states that the copper cylinders inside the jars were similar to the copper cylinders discovered in the ruins of Seleucia and people there used these copper cylinders for holding strolls and the reason why the scrolls did not find inside them is that they disintegrated over centuries. So, it is more likely that the vessels used for the same purpose as the Seleucia cylinders since they looked alike. However, the lecturer believes that they actually looked alike but this similarity cannot prove anything. Furthermore, she states that when people used the copper cylinders of the jars with the presence of iron rods and liquid, it produced electricity. Therefore, it can be inferred that producing electricity was the second purpose of these cylinders.
Finally, the author believes that these vessels were useless to ancient people as batteries generating electricity because they had no devices that replied on electricity. In opposition to this, the lecturer brings up the idea that these vessels produced a mild shock when people touched them because of the invisible power of these vessels. In addition, ancient people might have used these vessels for medical treatment since the electricity is used for stimulating the muscles.
