The reading and the lecture are both about the pattern of fine lines surrounding the skeletal bones of a dinosaur called sinosauropteryx which makes a sense of such a proof that sinosauropteryx had feathers. More specifically, the writer refutes the theory of that dinosaur had feathers. The lecturer in the listening passage disagrees. she strongly believes that the form of lines represent feathers. The lecturer casts doubt on the main points made in the reading by providing three reasons.
First of all, according to the reading, the experts mention that these lines were occurred after the animals' death from decomposition in volcanic ash and cause someone to misunderstand what these are really. However, the lecturer disputes these points. she says that it is improbable as a result of other animals' fossils structures which were found in the same area but they have not decomposed. Furthermore, she declares that these lines would be feathers based on well-preserved condition.
Secondly, the reading states that being these lines related to frills more likely than feathers. Nevertheless, the lecturer denies this argument. she argues that there is a serious difference between them. feathers contain protein which is called beta-keratin while frills don't. In terms of fact, we could realize these lines as a form of feathers.
Finally, the reading claims that the structure of lines was located around the backbone and the tile of the sinosauropteryx fossil which could not be used as feathers to fly or decrease body temperature. On the other hand, the lecturer explains other functions of feeders. In addition, she exemplifies the style of a peacock that has colorful feathers in the Ltd tail to interest visitors. So sinosauropteryxs could have feathers for showing.
In conclusion, both the writer and professor hold conflicting views about having of feathers by Sinosauroopteryxs. It’s clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on this issue.
