The diagram below show the changes that have taken place at West Park Secondary School since its construction in 1950.
The pictures illustrate three different stages in the development of West Park Secondary School in 1950, 1980 and 2010.
Overall, the school has experienced significant changes with the disappearance of houses and farm area to make way for the construction and expansion of the school building, parking, and recreational areas. The only thing that remains unchanged is the main road.
In 1950, the school was built close to the main road and next to a number of houses in the left. Located behind the houses was farmland, while a playground was introduced to the right-hand side of it. By 1980, the houses had been demolished in order to build a small car park and a science block, which was situated right next to the main building. Also, the farmland had been turned into a sports field.
In 2010, the parking space was extended to cover the entire sports field, which was then narrowed and relocated behind the main building. As a result, the playground was reduced in size to provide space for the sports field, which occupied one-third of the playground area.
