The line graph below shows changes in the amount and type of fast food consumed by Australian teenagers from 1975 to 2000.
The number of times that Australian adolescents consumed three types of fast foods-pizza, hamburgers and Fish and Chips over the course of 25 years, starting from 1975. Overall, Fish and Chips experienced a steady downward trend while pizza and hamburgers had an opposite trend.
In the beginning of the period, Australian teenagers ate Fish and Chips nearly a hundred times more than the other two foods. Despite that, over the following decade, the figure of consumption for this fast food fluctuated, it dropped to slightly over 80 times in 1975, then rose again to nearly 100 in 1980. After that, the figure started to gradually descended, its lowest was below 40 times in 2000.
In contrast, pizza and hamburgers did not have high consumption rate at first, with both of their figures were under 10. However, the number of times hamburgers’ were eaten escalated significantly in the subsequent years, stood at 40 times in 1980 then doubled to over 80 times in 1985, finally became the most eaten fast food by the end of the period. For Pizza’s also rose, yet was more moderate than hamburgers’. It reached a high of over 80 times in 1995, and then leveled off afterwards.
