the graph below shows average carbon dioxide emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.
The given linear graph compares the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) which were released per person in four European countries over a period of 40 years.
It is clear that the United Kingdom emitted by far the largest amount of CO2 than the others. In addition, while the UK's and Sweden's trends of producing CO2 decreased during this period, Portugal's and Italy's patterns increased.
In 1967, the UK's nations released a massive amount of CO2 (about 11 metric tonnes). This is followed by Sweden, with 9 metric tonnes approximately. Italy and Portugal were on the third and fourth rank, with just over 4 metric tonnes and nearly 1 metric tonne respectively.
Although the United Kingdom was on the top producer of CO2 all time, its trend fell moderately to 9 metric tonnes. Furthermore, whereas Sweden saw a radical improve to peak at just over 10 metric tonnes in 1977, it dived exponentially to about 7 metric tonnes in 1987 and then experienced a consistent decline to well under 6 metric tonnes. Like Italy's, Portugal's emitted CO2 grew gradually with some periodic fluctuation.
