The charts demonstrates the proportion of engagement in household chores in paid or rented houses in two countries of the UK from 1918 to 2011.
Overall, there is an opposite tendency of households attendance between those who have house ownership and those who do no in England and Wales. While in owned accommodations the percentage of housework attendance saw a noticeable decline since year 1918, the one of rented accommodations grew greatly, especially in the last there years. A symmetrical but entirely contrary development can be seemed in the two sorts of accommodations.
Firstly, the percentage of households done by renters shows a totally difference path with that of households done by house keepers. The former feature nearly doubled the one of households done by house owners before 1961. The percentage peaked at almost 77% at the first year, then sharply dropped two years later. In 1971, the percentages of households in these two types of house living conditions appeared to be the same(50%). In the last year, the percentage of these participants who lived in rented accommodations started to regrow with around 36%.
On the contrary, the proportion of households in owned houses in these two countries shows another tendency. In the first four years, the figure increased in a stable speed, remaining unchanged between 1939 and 1953. The percentage saw an obvious increase in year 2001 with approximately 60%, which is almost the same with the figure one year ago. Although the figure keeps growing before 2001, a subtle decline can be seemed in 2011(about 65%). Basically, in the last year its percentage had risen threefold compared to that of the beginning.
