You are going to another country to study. You would like to do a part-time job while you are studying, so you want to ask a friend who lives there for some help.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter
give details of your study plans
explain why you want to get a part-time job
suggest how your friend could help you find a job
Dear Pankti,
As I write this letter, my first thoughts are to your well-being. How are you? I hope everything is good on your side. As you know, I have received an acceptance letter from Columbia University for Masters in Genetics and soon I'll fly to New York. I'll truly appreciate your help.
I just received a letter from the program director which states my schedule and as per that I will be free on weekends. also I won't have college after 3:00 pm which can either be used in merry-making or doing some odd jobs. I'm planning for shift jobs that do not clash with my classes and give me ample amount of time to study.
The money that I earn from my job will be for my personal use and I won't have to ask my parents for it. Also, it'll make me independent and as you know i'm quite dependent on my parents, even for the smallest need.
Since you're living in new york and aware about job situation; you'll be able to find an apt workplace for me. I'll reach new york in first week of January and your help will be much appreciated.
I'm eagerly waiting for your reply. Give my regards to Dhruv.
With lots of love,
Tasneem
