The three pie charts give us information about how a specific UK school spent money annually on various things in 1981, 1991 and 2001.
Overall, the money being spent on insurance went up, while salaries of non-teaching workers seemed to decline throughout the time period. Furthermore, the expenditure on teachers’ pay and on resources, such as books, rose initially and then declined, whereas spending on furniture and equipment showed opposite trend i.e. it fell but eventually rose at the end.
Among the top expenses were teachers’ salaries, which accounted for 45 percent of the budget in 2001, compared to 40 percent in 1981. Secondly, wages of other staff members took up a significant portion of expenditure too, about 28 percent was spent on it in 1981, whereas it dropped to 15 percent in 2001. Resources and furniture also accounted for significant chunks of budget spending. The highest spending on books was seen in 1991 at 20 percent, while the highest spending on furniture and equipment was recorded in 2001 at 23 percent.
There were some other minor expenses too, such as insurance payments, which constituted a mere 2 percent of total budgetary spending in 1981. However, that rose up to 8 percent in 2001.
