The line graph compares the transportation of goods through various modes of conveyance including road, water, rail and pipeline in the UK form 1974 to 2002. Overall, the road transported the highest quantities of merchandise.
Merchandise transported by pipeline witnessed a gradual increase from minority quantities to approximately 25 million tones in 1996. Since then, this figure remained the same to 2002. The figure for rail experienced a collapse to 30 million tones, however, it covered by roughly 5 million tones before suffered from another fall. By the end of 2002, this figure went up significantly to 41 million tones.
Goods transported by water rose to its highest quantities of about 55 million tones. After experiencing a tediously rose and hence plunging by 5 million tones, this figure reached over 60 million tones of goods. Merchandise transported by road suffered from fluctuation. After fluctuating, this figure rose to over 80 million tones but soon declined to about 78 million tones. This figure reached its highest point in 1999 with 95 million tones and then increased gradually.
In conclusion, goods conveyed by road, water, rail experienced fluctuations with the exception of a gradual increase trend of the pipeline.
